The ANNEY family, owners of the cru, come from a long line of winegrowers. From 1715, a first ANNEY was installed in Potensac en Médoc. His grandson Arnaud, inherited vines in Vertheuil by his marriage in 1779. In 1876, his descendant bought a small vintage in Saint-Estèphe between the villages of Pez and Saint-Corbian named Château UPPER BARADIEU. Raymond-Adrien ANNEY will in turn enlarge the vineyard and build a wine cellar, rue Beruer in Bordeaux. In 1939, his only son Pierre acquired in Saint-Corbian the Château Tour des Termes, Cru Bourgeois of the appellation Saint Estephe. On the death of his father, he attached Château Haut-Baradieu to it to form an estate of 21 hectares, 17 of which were vines. Forty years later, his successors Jean and Christophe ANNEY perpetuate the family tradition by planting the remaining of the vineyard. Significant investments were undertaken, thus making it possible to position the two vintages among the sure values of the Saint-Estèphe appellation.
At the tasting, Château HAUT-BARADIEU appears all in roundness and charm, with suave tannins without harshness, allowing a tasting without aggressiveness, but with a good aging potential.
Recommended with white meats such as rack of lamb.
